Great Blogs about Great Products

Posted by admin on May 13, 2009 under Uncategorized | Be the First to Comment

sometimes when you’re looking for a product or info, blogs are your best source of info.  Recently I was looking for some stuff to make signs for a garage sale.  I wanted it to look better than the marker on a posterboard signs you see all over the place. I found two blogs that talk about vinyl lettering and wall words.  Although they’re simple, they get it done.

Wall Stamps - An Creative Take on Affordable Decor

Posted by admin on February 10, 2009 under Business Innovation | Be the First to Comment

I came across an eCommerce business a few weeks ago that I was amazed with.  I loved their website, as well as the products they offer, and their website was thoughtfully designed.  It was just a great site, with great products.  So, I contacted the owner to set up an interview about her business.

The business is Wall Stamps, which offers vinyl lettering products for interior design and home decor.  Now, I’ve seen other sites that offer vinyl letters, but none that I’ve enjoyed like this site.  There’s just something about the appeal of the designs being offered that puts Wall Stamps head and shoulders above the competition.  I had the opportunity to chat with the Owner and President of Wall Stamps, Anna Holdaway, about her success, and some insights into her business.

Me:  Anna, I have to thank you for agreeing to sit down for an interview with me.  I came across yoru site and fell in love with it, the products are so unique and fresh.  How did you come up with the idea for your business.

Anna:  Well, the idea for the business came about because I attended a church craft night about 2 years ago wherein we made some decorative signs, and we used vinyl lettering to add the words to the sign boards.  I loved the idea, but being that my education and corporate experience was in graphic design, I was a little dismayed at the plainness of the simple text.  I wanted my sign to stand out, so I decided to design my own saying, and have someone else who made vinyl lettering cut it out for me.  A week or two later she called me asking what I’d charge to design something else, because someone saw what I had designed and wanted one too.  From that experience Wall Stamps was born.

Me: Wow, that’s a great story.  I guess it’s true when they say luck is when preparedness meets opportunity.  You saw an opportunity and you jumped on it.

Anna:  Yes, with the support of my husband and kids, we decided to go full steam ahead with the business, and it’s be wildly successful.

Me: It surely has.  So tell me, in a nutshell, why do you think that Wall Stamps has more to offer than some of the other vinyl lettering companies out there?

Anna:  Well, there are some great companies out there, but most of them feature designs that are just too boring.  Just plain text in one font or two, with not a lot of visual appeal. Maybe I notice this more being that I’m a graphic designer, but to me, appeal is everything.  That is the first thing that sets Wall Stamps apart from most.  There are, however some other good companies out there that have great designs, but they’re so expensive.  And, you can only get them through a “demonstrator” which isn’t really that convenient for people to just want to browse online, and buy something without having to meet with a pushy “demonstrator” which is just another name for “salesperson.”  With Wall Stamps, you get the best designs, at the best prices.  I think that’s what makes us different.

Me:  Well Anna, I must say its been a pleasure, and we’ll keep our eye on you in the future.  Anything that you’d like to tell our readers about Wall Stamps while I’ve got you here.

Anna:  I think what I’d say is to give us a try, and that you won’t be let down at our quality, service, and design.  And that if you’d like to give us a try, you can get a discount with the discount code: ebusiness

Me:  Anna, thank you so much for your time.  It’s always a pleasure.

Anna: Likewise Marc, thank you.

Dell Seeks to Decrease Packaging Costs v. Firing Employees

Posted by admin on December 17, 2008 under Business Innovation | Read the First Comment

It seems that lately, especially with large companies, creativity and innovation have seen better days. Innovation and new thought as a means to increase or maintain profits have given way to a much simpler approach: firings and lay offs. As such, its refreshing to find companies that are still using their brains to find solutions to problems, rather than putting hard working employees out of work. As such, we applaud Dell Computers for their decision to reduce packaging costs to maintain profits rather than firing employees. I first caught this story (quoted below) from BetaNews.com. Here is the story:

Dell hopes to save $8.1 million over the next four years by making changes to the materials used in packing and shipping its PCs. The new packaging will be formed from recycled milk and detergent containers, among other things.
Today, Dell announced plans to trim its costs over the next four years by cutting out 20 million pounds of its customary computer packaging materials.
Now claiming to be the only major computer maker with a “global packaging reduction target” for desktops and laptops, Dell expects to reduce packaging materials by 10% worldwide, increase “sustainable content” in cushioning and corrugate packaging by 40%, and make 75% of its packaging components “curbside recyclable” by 2012.
Dell’s new packing materials will include High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) “thermo-foamed cushions.” HDPE is produced from recycled milk jugs and laundry detergent bottles, for example, the company said in a statement.
In changing its packaging ways, Dell plans to save $8.1 million over the next four years — savings that could potentially be put to any number of purposes, including avoiding job layoffs.
Meanwhile, though, the PC maker also seems to hitting a growing sweet spot with both business and consumer customers.
In survey results rolled out this fall at CES Unveiled New York, the Consumer Electronics Association reported rising interest among consumers in a lot of different aspects of green computing, ranging from energy-saving devices to recyclable packaging.

We believe that companies like Dell Computers that are willing to make the tough choices to reduce costs via innovation over lay-offs are the companies of the future. In a tough economy, it’s nice to see a company that cares about it’s employees enough to think outside the box on their behalf.

Gilbert Tops List of Best Places To Live, Thanks to Mayor Steve Berman

Posted by admin on under Political News | Be the First to Comment

Recently, CNNMoney.com ranked Gilbert Arizona as the 28th best city to live in the united states. So what makes

A Lazy Day At The Park

A Lazy Day At The Park

Gilbert Arizona so special? Here is what the CNN Report found:

In the early 1900s, Gilbert was known as the Hay Capital of the World. Today it is a bustling small city and the fastest-growing town in Arizona in the last decade.
New development projects include the Freestone Recreation Center, a new regional mall called SanTan Village, and a planned Mormon temple.
Retaining the charm of the old days, the town’s Heritage District remains a quaint and historic heart of the community. And the schools are top notch.

How did Gilbert get to be such a great place to live? Perhaps the answer is three fold: the people, the atmosphere, the mayor. The Mayor, you may ask? Yes, the mayor. Gilbert Mayor Steve Berman has been instrumental in education, public policy, and the economic growth that makes Gilbert Arizona such a great place to live. Mayor Steve Berman works hard to provide a safe, family friendly city. His fiscal responsibility has allowed Gilbert grow and flourish. In most cases, we’re not much for politicians, but Mayor Steve Berman is in a league of his own.
